Breaking news: CA Dept of Health releases warnings on cell phone use

Read it here

Update 3/15: The Sacramento Superior Court has ordered the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) to release the Department's cell phone use guidance document as a final version, omitting the words "Draft and Not for Public Release", that were on the original release.

Last night (after 7 years and a lawsuit) the California Department of Public Health released a cell phone radiation fact sheet summarizing research on cell phone radiation health risks based on studies “that suggest that long-term cell phone use may increase the risk of brain cancer and other health problems".

See the article "State Kept Secret Guidelines on Safe Cell Phone Use" on the front page of today's SF Chronicle.

The guidelines recommend that people reduce their exposure to cell phone radiation, especially pregnant women, children and teens  as children's brains absorb more radiation than adults, which can be particularly harmful as their bodies are still developing.

Safety tips, many of which we've discussed before, are offered as well.

So why did the state sit on this information for 7 years?

I've attached a copy of the fact sheet here.
